Hello My Name Is...

Miss Gill

Miss Gill

I have lived my whole life in Manhattan.  This is my 8th year teaching at St. Joe's.  I worked full time for Illinois Secretary of State while obtaining an associates in math and a bachelors in accounting.  Upon graduation I worked at CNA Insurance in Chicago for 17 years.  I received my MBA while working at CNA. I went back to school and received my Masters in Education.  I love that I am able to bring our Lord in to all of the subjects I teach.  I lead an after school girls only science club for 6th through 8th grade called Stellar Girls.  This helps strengthen their ability in science and will hopefully lead them towards a career in the science field.  I also co-lead a Legos Mindstorm robotics club with Mary Mangun from the Manhattan-Elwood Public Library.  The club is through 4-H, so there is a $20 annual dues unless the student is already in a 4-H club.  Club is open for boys and girls 6th through 8th grade. Both clubs are in their third year.  The last two years we have won awards at the robotics competition.  Last year there were 58 schools/clubs in the competition.  I have also had help starting a Monarch butterfly garden (thanks to all of those that helped!) on the east side of our school and am looking forward to starting a club on that in the future.  The garden was started in the fall of 2015.
