Grade 8 Homework

Week of 15 September 14

Religion

We have covered the "Teaching Church" along with apostolic succession, Tradition and Scripture, Revelation, Fathers and Doctors of the Church, and some doctrine. We have alos looked at the Church authority, and the government of the Church. Next, we look at the heirarchical structure.  Students are considering who they are choosing to sponsor them for Confirmation. At this time, each student will be researching and choosing a saint to designate as a patron and Confirmation name. 
SHEPHERD'S TABLE STARTS THIS TUESDAY AND CONTINUES ON THE SECOND TUESDAY OF THE MONTH.

English
In writing, the students are using their journals to exercise descriptive thought and ideas to form well-structured sentences. The options for ideas on describing include: sight, sound, smell, taste, touch, memory, prediction, related ideas, comparison/contrast, possibilities, similes and metaphors. On Monday, the students tabled the item to be described within a finite category, within a larger category, withing a larger category.
(Example: bacon > pig parts > animal meat > food...)
This will help with comparison/contrast and simile or metaphor.

In grammar, the students are working with pronouns and will finish this section after IOWA TESTING NEXT WEEK. .

Literature
In reading and discussing the novel TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD, the students have one remaining project, a book jacket to cover their novel. Due date: 26 Sept.
Please review the vocabulary in the novel as we read so you are ready for class discussions.
We are discussing the novel in class and the students should finish the book by Thursday for discussion and an objective assessment. The essay regarding the novel will be due next week.

We will be IOWA TESTING from Monday, 22 Sept. until Wednesday morning, possibly the afternoon. The remainder of the novel should be read by Friday, 26 Sept.
In Vocabulary, Lesson 1-3 assessment is Thursday, 18 Sept.

Spanish
Please know the students study Spanish on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday in school and are encouraged to use 10 minutes a day to review what they have learned in school.
